Energy makes the world go round. The lack of fossil fuels we are experiencing today can be recognized in the rise of fuel prices. However, fuel prices are commanded by a whole bunch of other factors, mainly governments that tend to overprice everything for their own benefit. Realistically, there are enough fossil fuels today for at least two centuries ahead, if the consumption maintains current levels. No matter what the case, alternative sources of power are being investigated every day. One of the better ways to use alternative power is by using solar panels, which use the energy of the Sun to generate electricity on the go. This technology has developed a lot in the last couple of years, but there are some important drawbacks to be considered as well.
The price of panels is far from affordable
The statement mentioned in the title could be heard by a majority of people. However, these panels give you an option to make money, at least in today’s world. Even though panels cost a lot of money to start with, you can actually fully repay them over a period of a decade. This can be done by signing contracts with electricity companies that will buy your electricity from you for their nominal price. One might consider this to be quite an investment as you won’t need to do anything and will make money in the same time. That is, if you count off things like maintenance and servicing. Fortunately, costs of these two things are fairly low as there are only a few components that might experience failures, such as the water pump or power converters. With money you make from selling electricity, you can expand your park of panels and make even more money, while having more than enough electrical power for your own home.
Uses of Sun panels
Other than using these panels for high electrical power, there are many other purposes as well. There are electrical cars that make use of panels on top of them, although in practice they haven’t proven to be fairly reliable. However, in hybrid cars, these panels are being built into the sheet metal used to build the car, which results in an excellent way to utilize even more green power without obstructing the overall design of the car. Unfortunately, the biggest problem with all this is, again, the price. So far the only real affordable mean of using these panels is for calculators or perhaps charging some handheld devices. For any more than that there are substantial investments needed in order to make everything working properly.
The future of solar energy
The current technology used in converting photons to electrons is efficient, but manufacturing of it is too expensive. I look forward to the day when these panels make use of some more advanced methods of converting solar power into high electricity current for a lower price, as I will gladly take part into the whole solar powered – green electricity, especially with battery powered cars.
